The ying and yang, the dark and light, the hot and cold, and yes, the old and the young. Life is made up of contrasts. It’s those opposite extremes that causes us to reflect on different seasons.
While I was recently out in my home state of California to take care of my mother, I snapped a poignant photo. My nephew’s son and my mother are both sharing my mom’s cane. The 92-year old uses it for support so she won’t fall down. The one-year old for balance to pull himself up and stand.
As I looked at the photo it reminded me that, just like the cane they both share, the Lord is always right in the middle of our life- if we allow him. Old or young, He plants his solid support, available to those who love him.
King David puts our lives in context when he said, “I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. (Psalm 37:25). Yes, some look at trusting God as a crutch. I look at it as a visible means of strength.
