Trust. Lean. Submit.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
~ Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

 

 

We have trouble in our life don’t we? We raise our children and somehow get them through those high school years. We shell out big bucks for college… if we have it and get them graduated and even married. Whew. Now for the fun.

But then other obstacles crash down on our highway to happiness and contented bliss when we look to a time to enjoy ourselves. Job layoffs crash down on our path, making the trail impassable. Children who should have grown up seem confused and drifting. Illness strikes those who have been healthy all their life.

Yes, life’s zig zags never stop. Even still, we hold our breath for that ideal day.

The truth is, that that beautifully constructed day- when our husband says we’re really not fat, all our children love each other at the same time, we’ve just received a big raise, and we’re having a good hair day–won’t last.

But Jesus will.

This proverb inserts three verbs to remind us where to look in troubled times: trust, lean and submit.

Trust comes from the confidence of God’s character.

Lean implies not standing on our own two feet. It’s okay to have Him support us.

Submit means taking our unruly will and giving it to God for Him to work in our lives.

Trust, lean and submit. Nothing new but oh so very powerful. Three little words that can change our attitude in tenuous times.
